Elevate Distance Education Engagement Webinar
Blended distance education can open doors and reduce barriers for students who are unable to attend didactic classes in a traditional format or a on a traditional schedule. Reaching such learners using engaging, instructor-led distance learning provides an opportunity to grow your surgical technology or surgical assisting program.
Join Casey Glassburner, MA, CST, FAST, and the ARC/STSA on Wednesday, April 1, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. MT, for a discussion on ways to increase student and instructor engagement in the online learning environment, and potentially grow your program.
Objectives:
- Identify challenges related to distance education
- Describe engagement in the distance learning environment for students and instructors
- Discuss ideas to increase student and instructor engagement in the learning management system
- Identify examples of distance education engagement ARC/STSA site evaluators will look for during scheduled site visits
- Brainstorm and collaborate through shared ideas from session attendees
Presenter:
Casey Glassburner is the Program Director for the Surgical Technology Program at Southeast Community College (SCC) located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Distance education has been an option for students at SCC since 2000 and has evolved significantly since it was first implemented. The online option for students at Southeast is currently supported by three Separate Instructional Sites providing access to students who cannot relocate to take courses in person.
The distance option has allowed the surgical technology program at SCC to expand and offer a part time option accepting the first cohort of students into this option in Fall 2025.
