What is CAAHEP?

CAAHEP – The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is a programmatic post-secondary accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

CAAHEP grants accreditation to educational programs based on the recommendation of the ARC/STSA. The ARC/STSA is the Committee on Accreditation (CoA) within the CAAHEP organization for surgical technology and surgical assisting programs. In 2020 there were 25 Committees on Accreditation (CoA) within the CAAHEP system, accrediting more than 2,200 educational programs in 32 health science professions throughout the United States. CAAHEP provides programmatic accreditation rather than institutional accreditation, therefore programs receive programmatic accreditation in addition to an institutional accreditation. CAAHEP is recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as an authorized accreditation organization, allowing graduates of CAAHEP accredited programs to be board examination eligible. Please see www.caahep.org for more complete information on CAAHEP.
