Comprehensive reviews of CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology and surgical assisting programs moving into or renewing continuing accreditation status will include a self-study component beginning in the spring of 2027.

CAAHEP Policy 206 defines a comprehensive review as a quality assurance evaluation of a program’s compliance with the Standards that includes a self-study submission and general site visit, and is conducted at least once every 10 years.

The ARC/STSA is announcing the self-study requirement and corresponding Schedule of Fees for 2027a year in advance to allow ample time to provide detailed information and educational programming to support our programs.

The self-study document will be provided nine months prior to its implementation to programs whose CAAHEP decision letter to award accreditation designates their comprehensive evaluation is due “no later than 2027”.

The inclusion of the self-study report will provide programs and institutional sponsors an opportunity to conduct an internal review to take stock of their strengths and program effectiveness, identify needed resources and areas for improvement, and explore opportunities for  growth.
