The ARC/STSA is pleased to welcome Janice Grewatz, BS, CST, CSFA, CSPDT, FAST and Karyn Songer, AS, CST, FAST, to its Board of Directors. Each will hold a three-year term concluding in December 2021.

Grewatz is the program director at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, and the current president of the Illinois State Assembly of the Association of Surgical Technologists. Grewatz graduated from Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, Nebraska, with an associate degree in Surgical Technology and a bachelor’s in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She has served as a Technical Reviewer for the Association of Surgical Technologists’ textbook Surgical Technology for the Surgical Technologist: A Positive Care Approach, is a site visitor for the ARC/STSA, and has been a member of AST for 24 years.

Songer served as the program director of the surgical technology program at Concorde Career College in Aurora, Colorado, and the program chair of the surgical technology program at Everest College, in Thornton, Colorado. Songer has been a national member of the AST since 1992, serving in numerous roles at the national level, including the National Board of Directors and chair of the Surgical First Assistant Committee. As a member of the Colorado State Assembly of the AST, Songer has also fulfilled a number of leadership roles, including president, chapter delegate to the National Conference, delegate chair and Educational Session co-chair. Songer has served as an ARC/STSA site visitor since 2012.
